Maritime Cortex acquires Big Ocean Data to build AI-powered future for global fleet intelligence
Maritime Cortex Limited today announced the acquisition of Big Ocean Data, a maritime vessel tracking and analytics platform serving over 200 commercial, government and environmental organisations worldwide.
The acquisition brings renewed investment and a focused product roadmap to accelerate AI-driven capabilities for shipping, logistics and fleet operators.
Big Ocean Data has built a strong reputation delivering vessel tracking, compliance and monitoring technology. Under Maritime Cortex ownership, the company will move into a new phase of platform development, strengthening core stability while expanding into route optimisation and predictive intelligence.
Big Ocean Data has a strong technical foundation, a loyal customer base and a team with deep maritime expertise. We are committing to a clear roadmap: route optimisation tools in H1, an AI insight layer by end of year, and a platform stability programme beginning immediately. Our goal is to strengthen what already works and accelerate what comes next.
Mark Hewish will continue as Managing Director of Big Ocean Data. Maintaining leadership continuity reflects the strength of the existing team and the importance of domain expertise in the maritime data sector.
This gives our customers something concrete: a fully invested product team, a faster release cycle, and a platform that will grow with them. Our first priority is delivering the route optimisation features our customers have been asking for, and we will be sharing timelines with them directly in February.
